Nogales Historic Walking Tours

Architectural buffs will love the 200 homes and commercial buildings in Nogales listed on the National Register of Historic Place. In addition to the predominant Sonoran Style, there are also fine examples of Queen Anne Cottage, Second Empire, Spanish Colonial, Pueblo Revival, Mediterranean Style, and Bungalow Style all within the downtown area. Many of the stores along historic Morley Avenue, like Capin & Company and Brackers Department Store, were established in the early 1900s and are run by descendants of pioneer merchants.
The Nogales Community Development has organized two different historic walking tours for visitors to enjoy the architecture and history of downtown Nogales, or you can improvise one of your own.

Volume One: Commercial & Residential Neighborhoods Tour

The Volume One walking tour guides guests through three routes. The Blue Tour along Morley and Grand Avenues features the commercial center of early Nogales. The Red Tour winds up hill through old residential neighborhoods providing an overview of Nogales’ history told through the fashions in domestic architecture. It’s a steep route but well worth it. The Gold Tour requires transportation and goes farther afield to both residential neighborhoods and civic buildings like the Old Mexican Consulate, each with its own story to tell.

Volume Two: Commercial Districts Tour

The Volume Two of Nogales Historic Tours highlights the unique cultural and economic history of Nogales’s downtown commercial district. Each of the 20 locations reveals the community’s rich heritage, public amenities, businesses and landmarks. Some entries also include background information on the original land owners, the early pioneers who shaped Nogales’s future.
