Infrastructure

The Ambos Nogales binational region is Mexico’s entry point to Arizona and the entire Western United States. It is the exclusive gateway for international interstate, air and rail service along 700-miles of the U.S.- Mexico border between Texas and California. With this strategic location, industry enjoys the advantages of accessing two labor forces, two tax systems, and two governments.

Ports of Entry

Nogales is home to five International Ports of Entry, including the Morley Pedestrian Port of Entry, Dennis DeConcini Pedestrian and Passenger Vehicle Port of Entry, Nogales International Airport, the cattle crossing and the Mariposa Port of Entry. The new Nogales-Mariposa Port of Entry has 12 passenger vehicle inspection lanes and 8 commercial inspection lanes. The Mariposa Port of Entry is the largest entry point for fresh produce from Mexico, to the tune of over 4 billion pounds each year, representing close to 45% of the fresh produce consumed in the US during the winter months.

Highways

Nogales enjoys a relatively large number of commercial opportunities where the U.S. and Mexico conduct international business along one of the western hemisphere’s most vital trade corridors. Interstate 19, originating in Nogales, provides easy access to major U.S. and Mexican markets through north-south and east-west trade corridors, including transcontinental U.S. Interstate 10, and U.S. Interstates 40, 8 and 17 and Mexico’s primary north-south route Federal Highway 15 which connects in Sonora to the deep seaport in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico.

Airport

Nogales International Airport is a county-owned public airport located 7 miles away from downtown Nogales. It’s one of five Nogales-area ports of entry into the United States. It is categorized as a general aviation facility. It does not serve any commercial airplanes as of June 2014. The facility contain 340 acres at an elevation of 3,955 feet. There is one runway measuring 7,199 by 100 feet and one helipad site measuring 97 by 97 feet.

Rail

Union Pacific and Ferromex operate the rail line that crosses the international border in Nogales, connecting the State of Arizona to international markets through Hermosillo, Ciudad Obregon, and the deep water port in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico. The railway runs alongside Interstate 19.
